2018 Thumb Rose Society Schedule
All meetings will be held at the meeting places noted.
Unless a time is indicated, meetings will be at 6:00 p.m.
Monday, April 2 - "Soils for Roses" by Mickie Leibrand. Having problems growing roses? Come see what some of the problems might be and how to correct them. Testing for pH will also be offered free of charge. Bring ¼ cup of DRY soil. Consulting Rosarian report by Mickie Leibrand. Meeting location: Green Acres Landscaping, 236 Pigeon Road, Bad Axe.
Saturday, April (Date and time to be determined) - Uncovering roses, pruning and fertilizing at the Huron County Medical Care Facility Rose Garden, 1116 S. Van Dyke, Bad Axe, MI (weather permitting). Call 989-553-2992 if you are interested in helping or learning how to care for your own roses.
Monday, May 7 - "2018 ARS Rose Recommendations" by Thumb Rose Society members. Meeting location: Green Acre Landscaping, 236 Pigeon Road, Bad Axe.
Saturday, June 30 – TRS Road Trip to Midland. All are invited. Carpooling available, meet-up site will be determined by those going. We will do a tour of Dow Gardens, shop at From Buds to Blooms in Bay City, and stop for refreshments. No cost to attend, but meal and Dow Gardens ticket will be on your own.
July and August - Nothing scheduled at this time.
Wednesday, September 5 - "Pop Bottle Rose Show" - This is our annual pop bottle rose show. Winners are invited to share how their rose became so good that they made it as a winner at our show. Prizes for "The Best Rose" and "The Best Bragger." Meeting location: Green Acres Landscaping, 236 Pigeon Road, Bad Axe.
Monday, October 1 – Tentative program will be on "Companion Plants for Roses."
Sunday, November 11 - 2:00 p.m. - "Christmas Party!" A Dutch Treat luncheon will take place at the Old Port Restaurant, 862 N. Van Dyke, Bad Axe, MI. Bring a (minimum $10) cash or gift card donation for a local food pantry. Drawing will take place to determine which food pantry will receive collection.
Saturday, November - (Date and time to be determined) - Workbee to winterize the roses at the Huron County Medical Care Facility (weather permitting). Call 989-553-2992 if your are interested in helping and/or learning how to winterize your own roses.
